Fall is the best time of the year for a Pittsburgh family photographer! I reconnect with some of my favorite people and get so much gorgeous family portrait work done in such a small period of time! We lucked out (for the 4th year in a row) with amazing weather–60-70 (!!) degrees and sunny both days. The following sessions are from my South Hills date:

I offer the fall family minis in Pittsburgh every year, but I only do other mini sessions and events on a random basis. To be the first to hear about these types of events, sign up for my email list! Westinghouse Memorial Pittsburgh, PA | N Family

The fall portrait season is winding down and cards are set to start arriving next week; I can’t believe it’s already almost December!! I have many fun events coming up, including TWO SPOTS for Saturday’s studio minis and a holiday event at Hatch Art Studio next week for Point Breeze Light Up Night. And now for this lovely portrait session from a few weeks ago… This was my fourth portrait session with this Shadyside family! We shot their session at the Westinghouse Memorial at Schenley Park, which is a special place to mom from her childhood. The City of Pittsburgh recently redid the whole site, and it made a gorgeous location for a portrait session.

Max is 4 and was absolutely not shy for me–he is the sweetest kid, sitting in my lap, holding my hand, and generally just making my day x 100. I know this is so cheesy but I just love kids and feel so lucky to be able to work with them and watch them grow over the years from babies into little humans. Helena | Fox Chapel High School Class of 2017 | Canon Dual Pixel RAW

We shot gorgeous Helena’s session at Hartwood Mansion in the area between Fox Chapel and Allison Park. This is an absolutely stunning location, LOVED it. The bookish/historic background reminds me of Hogwarts! The downside is that there are other families there doing portraits there too, but I don’t mind that too much.

So along with this perfect weather day and location came my perfect subject, Helena! Happy photographer. We tried a few different looks and lighting scenarios to create a sense of variety in her images. Helena’s favorite was the one of her sitting on the steps. I like the ones with the flowers in the background.

This was the first session I shot with my new Canon 5D mark IV! I am so thrilled with its performance! The only disappointment was the Dual Pixel RAW feature–it takes up so much more memory and the software is really clunky. When you change the pixel layer (?), you have to export as a TIF which destroys my whole RAW workflow. I might use this more if they add a Lightroom plugin or something faster & easier to use. Not sure it will ever make sense for me if you have to color correct within the DPP software though… I have been refining my system in Lightroom for so many years and this messes up my batch editing process.

Newborn Baby Oliver

Welcome adorable baby Oliver! This sweet baby boy was born in September and joins big sister Helena.

I love this little guy’s nursery, the rug reminds me a lot of Baby Andrew‘s cute rug from a summer newborn photo session that I loved!

You would be surprised at the best locations for family portraits in a home! This hallway had beautiful directional window lighting and a simple background.

Cutest little “man cave”! Congrats S family!

Newborn Baby Andra | Lifestyle Newborn Session Pittsburgh

Baby Andra was born at the very end of August, just four days before the school cutoff! Will she be the youngest kid in her class? Yet to be seen! Right now she is just focused on sleeping and eating mostly.

This family lives right in my Mt. Lebanon neighborhood and I know mom from Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s Club, which I have been a member of for the past three years.

Mom is an expert in all things design, some had their stunning home as a backdrop. Big sister Kate was very sweet, holding and kissing her baby sister!

During a diaper and feeding break, I got a tour of the gorgeous stone patio at this family’s home.

The nursery walls are black and the furniture is mostly white and neutral. Very chic!
