My oldest turns 4 this week and my little lady is 2, so I finally decided on a “schedule” for family portraits in the long term.  I do impromptu portrait sessions of them all the time, but I decided it’s a good idea to do an actual planned family portrait with a professional photographer (not me!!) every other year and a planned/styled session of just the kids on the alternating years.  I decided it works out well for Jeremy & me to sit out and just concentrate on the kids on alternating years.  You feel me?

I rented this studio for a family in November and decided to carve out an hour for my own kiddos in the hour before my session.  I planned the outfits, etc just as I advise all of you to do!

My kids are used to having their photos taken in my home studio and are usually great about it… however, being in a new place inspired some impish behavior, and these were a lot tougher than usual to capture!!  Still proud of my kiddos for being generally pretty sweet little ones and following mama’s directions.  Thanks to Jeremy (dada) for helping corral them!

Happy new year, and watch for many more blog posts coming soon!  I have about 20 sessions from fall-winter to blog and I hope to get it all done by the end of January. <3

  1. These are great Missy! I can’t believe how big they are now! It’s so awesome to see what you capture about them. It’s cool to see how far you’ve come with your photography, and you can certainly tell that you have been working on it for many years. Very proud of you my friend!
